Facing GM food in the world, there is big difference between European and American. European thinks that it is safety, which has proved harmlessness, American thinks what can not prove harmful is safety. From this difference, we can see European appears a carefulness and conservative, but American appears open and radical. In US 90% processed food belongs to GM food. However so far US has not allowed GM rice to seed. Japan has 100% self-sufficiency in rice and a few of rice for export, imports about 6 million tons of GM soybean with strict attestation a year, there has not been banned from GM food to sell, but with record in Japan. Chinese get one's hard to understand, sometimes saying is more conservative than European, sometimes doing is more radical than American. In September 2009,the Ministry of Agriculture quietly issued bio-safety certificates for two strains of Genetically Modified rice and a GM corn stain, signs that China is expected to be the first country to commercialize GM rice planting. This is a good example.
