中国为什么在转基因农作物的问题上，下如此大的功夫，科学家敢于冒这样大的风险，敢于走在其它国家的前头，说到底是为了多打粮食，解决十几亿人吃饭的问题。让我们做一个换位思考，假如中国有俄罗斯、美国、巴西甚至印度那么多耕地﹙印度有22亿亩耕地，人均耕地2.8亩,顺便说一句,中国人均耕地不到1.4亩﹚，那末,中国搞转基因农作物的积极性就要大打折扣。我不是盲目地反对搞转基因农作物的研究与试验，我是主张用人造土壤技术解决十几亿人吃饭的问题。因为有了耕地(例如40亿亩)就等于有了粮食(例如一年产粮10亿吨)，手中有粮心中不慌，等转基因农作物食用的安全性得到证实后，再给老百姓吃，那不是更加稳妥吗。

If we have enough cultivated land (such as 4 billion mu of cultivated land), we will have enough grain (such as 1 billion tons of grain a year). If we have enough grain (such as 1 billion tons of grain a year), we will not be nervous about food shortage. We can wait till the security of transgenic food for human beings and animals has been proved completely. Will that be a better choice for the Chinese people?
